Full Text
It affords us peculiar satisfaction, to be able to inform our readers, and the public at large, that, according to our latest accounts, no farther alarming evil is to be apprehended from the infamous Shays and his deluded banditti. The wise precautions of the Massachusetts government; the awfully resplendent and martial appearance of a LINCOLN at the head of 7000 men, holding MERCY and FORGIVENESS in the one hand, and the SWORD of Justice in the other, has, on the one hand convinced them of their error, and on the other pardoned many, taken many, dispersed many ; and on the whole, frightened these assassins of good order and good government out of their favourite plan, of paying their debts by a word and a blow, and beginning the world anew. There are still, however, a few adherents to Shays remaining with him, who, it is not doubted, will soon abandon him and retire to their former domestic tranquility.
