IS THIS SILENCE GOLDEN?
(Lynchburg News.)

Presidents Harding and Coolidge both declared for the World Court and for American adherence thereto. The Republican platform of 1920 and the Republican platform of 1924 declared for it and promised adherence to it.

The result is that the United States is not now a member and is now doing what it has done for world peace since the debacle of 1921, which is absolutely nothing.

The Republican platform of 1928 is silent on the subject of the World Court and so far the Republican candidate, Mr. Hoover, is as silent on the subject as on all other subjects, which is to say as silent as can be.

Possibly if he can be kept silent something may be done. Emphatic declaration for the court by Republican party platform and leaders having meant nothing, silence may mean something. If they could only have been persuaded to pledge themselves not to favor adherence the thing would be close to a certainty.
