Norfolk, Aug. 18.
A very singular circumstance occurred here on Saturday, which has given rise to much wonder and remark. Mr. C. H. Gerkin, well known in our community as a Professor of Music, went to an undertaker, during the forenoon, and, though apparently in excellent health, ordered his coffin, stating that he felt an unmistakable presentiment that he would die in the afternoon. The undertaker, regarding it as a jest, took no further notice of the matter, and in a short time forgot all about the affair. Mr. Gerkin, after leaving the establishment, went home, was shortly afterwards taken sick and at an early hour in the evening was a corpse. The matter is altogether inexplicable, as Mr. G. appeared in excellent health, and was not subject to aberrations of intellect.
