Full Text

The cabinet, it is said, is much divided on the subject of the Spanish armament. The question is, if Spain should attack the Portuguese settlements at the Brazils, whether England is not bound, by every principle of sound policy, to assist this ancient and useful ally? If it is determined by a majority in the affirmative, there can be little doubt that England will soon be involved in a war. The odds in the city, and at the west end of the town, for a war with Spain, in three months, are 150 to 100; between this and Christmas, 200 to 50. Yesterday twenty guineas to five were laid, at a coffee-house in the neighbourhood of the royal exchange, that lord Chatham would be in the administration, and that we should be engaged in a war in less than three months.
