Gen. Jackson's first appointment to office.—The subjoined extract from the Senate Journal of the Legislature of North Carolina, at its session of 1789, records the first appointment ever conferred upon Gen. Jackson. The reader will bear in mind, that this was before the session of Tennessee, though that event took place the same year.

'Mr. Graham and Mr. Montgomery, from the Committee appointed to conduct the balloting for Attorney General of Mero District, reported that they had performed the duty, and that Andrew Jackson is duly elected Attorney General for said District.'
