Ice Famine.

There is practically an ice famine in Winnsboro. For more than a month the dealers have made every effort to get carloads and so far have been unable to secure any prospect of shipments for several days. The ice houses at Columbia, Sumter, etc., state that they can make small shipments by express, which makes the cost of this luxury delivered 50 cents per hundred, plus the loss in considerable and dealers are compelled to sell at $1.00 per hundred. It can be seen that there is a small margin of profit. This is an unfortunate condition and suggests that the producers are in a combination to keep the price up. In view of this ice famine a number of our citizens have expressed themselves as willing to put money into a plant at this point. A local plant would be a highly remedy for preventing future occurrences in the summer.
