Full Text
Displeased -The Chicago Tribune, like the Pillsbury Anti-slavery Standard, is displeased with President Johnson. It says "he has caused profound dissatisfaction in the heart of almost every earnest and undoubtedly loyal men in the north." The Tribune is a brawler for negro suffrage in the south. Let the Tribune and its co-laborers go to work for the advancement of the negroes of Illinois place them upon political equality with the whites, in all respects, and if the experiment works well, Tennessee may be emboldened by the example to extend to her negroes the same privileges. It is a little singular that our northern brethren have never discovered until the year 1865, that "colored citizens" ought to be invested with the ballot. But having made the discovery; they ought to show their sincerity by conforming their state laws to it, before endeavoring to impose it upon other states.-Nashville Union.
