Full Text

A Noble Act.--Among the truly benevolent acts of the day, we have the pleasure of mentioning one in our own county, which deserves a rank with the noblest. Miss Christianna Blackburn has emancipated a family of servants, consisting of a man, his wife. and six children, and has provided for their emigration to Liberia.--They left here about ten days ago, in charge of Mr. Archibald Lamon, of this place. who was to attend to their embarkation, and have probably sailed from Norfolk. in a vessel chartered by the Colonization Society. which was to have left that port on the first inst. Such a deed deserves a commendation far above any which our humble pen can dictate. It is the more worthy of record, because it emanates from one who has performed many acts of unostentatious charity, and because examples set by ladies always meet with a prompt and willing imitation. We shall take great delight in noticing similar instances of genuine philanthropy. Va. Free Press.
