Moultrie Mayor Welcomes AME Delegates

By REV. C. A. WINGFIELD

MOULTRIE, Ga., (SNS)—The first day of the regular session of the South Georgia Conference got underway in Grant's Chapel A. M. E. church here today as Bishop W. A. Fountain called the first of his eight annual conferences to order.

A Love Feast led by the older ministers of the conference and the annual sermon by the Rev. R. T. Matthews, pastor of the St. Timothy A. M. E. church, were features of the opening session.

The organization of the conference was also perfected.

During the day, the presiding elders completed the examination of pastors and stated their readiness to face the bishop with itemized pastoral reports for the fiscal year. The death of Mrs. I. G. Glass, the wife of Presiding Elder Glass, has cast a feeling of sadness over the conference and is being felt by all.

Bishop W. A. Fountain will deliver his annual address today and, as the speech will sound the keynote for all of the conferences of Georgia. It is being watched with much eagerness by both ministers and laymen.

The welcome exercises Tuesday night featured an address by Mayor J. Frank Norman. Others on the program included Rev. J. E. Reece, Rev. S. A. Laing, Mrs. John F. Black, A. F. Shaw, Rev. A. Kelly of the M. E. church (South), Miss L. Adams of Grant's Chapel A. M. E.; Principal Vincent H. Harris of the Moultrie High School; Miss Ruth Todd Laramore of the C. M. E. church, Miss Jestina Bradberry of Mother Easter Baptist church; M. F. Falton of the Union Baptist church, Miss Annie Laurine Robinson of the Church of God in Christ and Miss Bethenia Thomas of the Willow Grove church.

Musical selections were rendered by the Grant Chapel A. M. E. choir and the Willow Grove Glee Club.
