Washington, April 4. President Roosevelt today signed a resolution authorizing a $50,000 joint congressional investigation into charges of corruption and waste within the Tennessee Valley authority and activities of private utilities in fighting the new deal's power rate "yard stick" program.

Signature of the measure which was approved by congress last week, cleared the way for early start of the investigation, with promise by Vice President Garner and Speaker Bankhead to promptly name the 10-man inquiry committee.

The president's action came while the senate was in recess until tomorrow and shortly after the house adjourned, blocking appointment of the committee until tomorrow.
