"Our election for the members of the State Convention commenced on Tuesday last; the federalists were likely to be taken by surprise; but Dr. McHenry and Dr. Coulter have carried by a great majority for the town, both federal. The two Charles Ridgely's for Baltimore County. Luther Martin for Hartford county, though it is supposed he is not eligible. Judge Hanson and Nicholas Carroll for Annapolis, federal. The Hon. Joseph Gilpin, Col. Hollingworth, Col. S. Evans and James G. Heron, Esq. for Cecil county, all federal. So far as returns have come to my knowledge, there will be a large majority of this state convention federal."
