Warning that "the reason some people don't amount to anything is that they won't mix with great people", Dr. Wm. G. Bivins, able pastor of Greater Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, told his congregation Sunday night as he wound up a highly successful revival which swept eighty-seven people into the church.
Three services were held during the day. The Pastor Bivins preached able messages to an overflow crowd. Sunday morning he preached on "Satan Trying To Attempt Christ", which was preceded by the baptising of thirty-seven candidates, while he developed the topic "Fear Not", at the night services.
Mrs. Rossie P. Bivins announced that the Woman's Hour will be held at the church on the third Sunday at 3 p. m. The church's anniversary for Rev. and Mrs. Wm. G Bivins as pastor of the church will be celebrated June 12-16
A special collection was lifted for the Booker T. Washington high school. The collection for the day amounted to $132.59. A check up on the number of people uniting with the church during the revival revealed that 87 people united, of this number 12 united Sunday.
