DISCUSSES MATTERS
Urged That All Men Eligible For Membership Unite With Organization
A small, but thoroughly enjoyable meeting of the Sumter Post of the American Legion was held in the Legion club rooms last night and many matters discussed. A nice lunch was served and those present were entertained with a concert by the Game Cock Melody Quartette.
The matter calling for most discussion was the apparent lack of interest in the organization by the large number of Sumter county men who are eligible for membership. The post has only a small percentage of the number of men it is entitled to and should have, and whys and wherefores were discussed. It was urged upon all men who are eligible that they become members of the local post, as they will find that they will derive much enjoyment and benefit from the meetings. Dr. Geo. D. Cromer of Newberry, in his Armistice Day address at the high school made the statement "I would give my right arm to be eligible for membership in the American Legion," and there are a great many other people who feel the same way about the matter.
It was decided that at the next meeting two of the best boxers obtainable would be secured for a bout, as it is known that most of the army men are interested in such athletic affairs and it is hoped that this inducement will draw more of them out to the meeting.
