Governor Talmadge has made an important change in the Executive Department.
Benton Odum has been his Executive Secretary until week before last. At that time the Governor appointed Odum as Treasurer of the State Highway Department and moved him across the street.
At the same time he appointed his brother-in-law, Bill Kimbrough, as Executive Secretary.
Both of these appointments are excellent appointments.
Benton Odum comes from Newton, Ga.
He has served in both the House and the Senate with distinction. He served as Governor Talmadge's Executive Secretary up until the time of this change.
Everybody who goes to the Governor's office speaks in glowing terms of Benton Odum. He is uniformly courteous, considerate and helpful to the many people who have business there.
Benton is a good lawyer and has practiced law for a great many years. His training as a lawyer and his training in the Legislature has given him the background and the experience necessary to make good public official.
The Highway Department should be congratulated on securing Odum as its Treasurer and he will make a great record there.
Bill Kimbrough is one of these steady, plodding work-horses. This is his first time with a public office. Heretofore his connection with politics has been in helping with the campaigns of former Governor Eugene Talmadge and Governor Herman Talmadge. In all of these campaigns he has done a world of work and has been a tower of strength.
Bill is the type of person who never seeks the limelight. He is content to stay in the background and to continue to work.
In his efforts he is untiring and has worlds of patience.
The Governor should be congratulated on naming Kimbrough as his Executive Secretary when he sent Odum to the Highway Department.
Governors have a difficult time finding competent people to handle State offices and any Governor is exceedingly lucky when he is able to get competent men like Odum and Kimbrough to accept these positions.
