Dave Amos, a negro who is wanted here for the murder of another negro, Roy Mullins, about a year ago, has been arrested and is in jail at Los Angeles, Cal., awaiting orders from local officers. Sheriff Sam E. Munn received a telegram this morning from the officers at Los Angeles stating that Amos was held there, having been arrested on the identification of a post card picture of Amos which local officers sent broadcast immediately after the murder. Sheriff Munn will leave immediately for Los Angeles.
Amos and Mullins were both employed at the Ozan Mill here at the time of the killing. Amos is said to have concealed himself in an outhouse below the Missouri Pacific station one afternoon after the mill had closed down and when Mullins passed along the road, it is claimed Amos shot his victim with a shot gun, killing him instantly. Amos then fled, going south afoot, and no trace had been had of him until the above telegram. It is believed that the killing was the outcome of a continuous quarrel which the negroes had been carrying on for sometime.
