The Men Who Have Charge of the Anti-Hayes "Republican."
A Washington special to the New York World, is as follows:
"The new anti-Hayes organ, as the Republican is now called, has filed a certificate of incorporation here, from which it appears it is owned by A. M. Clapp, ex-Public Printer; Alexander R. Shepherd, Hallett Kilburn, General O. E. Babcock, H. A. Clapp, ex-chief clerk to the Public Printer; Lewis Clephane and Lester A. Bartlett. With the exception of the latter, all the names are pretty well known through Congressional investigations of the Forty-third and Forty-fourth Congresses, especially Shepherd and Babcock. What these two want with an organ cannot be surmised, unless it is found in the gossip that both intend to bring their old friend Grant to the front again."
