Full Text

A letter from Calcutta, of Feb. 13, received in Quebec, says the Commercial Advertiser, speaks of the renewal of hostilities between the English and the Burmese, and says that the strong stockade of Maloon was carried with the extraordinary loss of only fourteen men. The place contained twenty thousand men, quantities of cannon, muskets, powder, horses, &c. It is certain, (the letter adds,) that the Emperor is ignorant of the real state of affairs, and no one dare tell him, as the messenger of bad news generally loses his head. Our army is marching to Umrapoora, and was only twenty-five days march distant when the last accounts came away.
