Franklin Square, Rev. E. G. Thomas, pastor. The attendance at the mid-week services was very encouraging. On Tuesday evening a very fervent prayer service was conducted by the deacons and on Thursday evening the pastor delivered a soul stirring sermon. Last Sunday was observed as Mother's Day and every department of the church paid a glowing tribute to Mother. The early prayer service was very effective. The Sunday School met at the usual hour conducted by Superintendent Geo. B. Jones. The pastor made an instructive talk on the lesson. At the morning service the pastor delivered a remarkable sermon from the subject 'Woman the Queen of the Home and Guardian of the Race.' Prov. 31:10. The sermon was very appropriate for Mother's Day and it made a profound impression on the hearers. The Mother's Day songs sung by the choir were much enjoyed. The B. Y. P. U. met at the usual hour, led by Mr. W. S. Glover. The topic discussed was 'Mother's Love.' Mr. Lampkin made a splendid address on the above topic. A brief program was rendered as follows: Selection, Nazareth Baptist Church quintet, led by Mr. W. G. Roberts; solo, Mr. W. S. Glover. In the evening the usual preaching service was suspended and a very pleasing Mother's Day pageant was rendered by a group of young folks of this church. The program was as follows: Processional, selection, chorus; paper, 'Mothers of Long Ago,' Mrs. Esther B. Thomas; pantomime, Miss Bertie Lee; selection, chorus; select reading, Mrs. W. G. Roberts; solo, Mr. W. S. Glover; instrumental duet, Miss Bessie Durden and Mr. Greene; select reading, Mrs. Willie G. Edwards; instrumental solo. Music for the occasion was furnished by Miss Ethel Grant and Messrs. Greene and Williams. The pageant was directed by Miss Elise Williams. The pastor and officers wish to express their hearty appreciation to this group for the splendid entertainments they are giving from time to time. On May 21st this group will present a comedy drama entitled 'Mother Full O Pep.' The cast of characters is Mrs. Carol, the Mother, Miss Frances Brown; Barbara Carol, the daughter, Miss Emmaline Epstein; Clarice, the maid, Miss Marx Bullock; Bridget, the cook, Mrs. L. Dingle; Mme. Palmore, proprietor of a beauty and reduction parlor, Miss Willie G. Edwards; Margaret Hainsworth, Barbara's friend, Miss Bessie Durden; Mrs. Bennet, Mrs. Leslie and Mrs. Burke, friends of Mrs. Carol, Mrs. Ernestine Taylor, Mrs. Esther B. Thomas and Mrs. Bertha Bailey; attendants, Mr. W. G. Roberts and Miss Bertie Lee; waitresses, Miss Rosalie Brown and Mrs. Eula P. Wright. There will be no admission but an offering will be taken. On next Sunday the 153rd anniversary of the church will be celebrated; the ceremony will be simple. The anniversary sermon will be preached Sunday morning by the pastor. Every member of the church is asked to contribute $1.53.
