Lieutenant Harwood and Private David Powers Killed in Action With Two Other Virginians.
Washington, Aug. 11.—Four army casualty lists, aggregating 345 names and one marine corps list of eighty-six names were made public today. The army casualties were divided as follows:
Killed in action, 154; died of wounds, 16; died of accident and other causes, 4; wounded severely, 76; wounded slightly, 2; wounded degree undetermined, 65; missing in action, 28.
The marine corps list included: Severely wounded in action, 1; wounded in action, degree undetermined, 52; missing in action, 3.
The total army casualties to date, including today's lists are 17,614, divided as follows: Killed in action (including 291 at sea), 3,722; died of wounds, 1,120; died of disease, 1,534; died of accident and other causes, 672; wounded in action, 9,112. Missing in action, including prisoners, 1,553.
Marine corps casualties to date: Officers—Deaths, 30; wounded, 55; missing, 1; total, 86. Enlisted men—Deaths, 503; wounded, 1,770; in hands of the enemy, 5; missing, 85; total, 2,663. Grand total officers and men, 2,749; combined armies and marine corps casualties to date, 20,363.
The list includes three Virginians, one of whom is Lieutenant Franklin A. Harwood, of 1413 Park avenue, Richmond. Lieutenant Harwood is the son of Franklin Harwood, now connected with the United States internal revenue department at Richmond.
The other Virginians named in the list are Garnett F. Lee, of Evington, and Clayton W. Hammond, of Gate City.
An official telegram from Washington was received yesterday by John F. Powers, special watchman at Murphy's hotel, residing at 519 North Seventh street, Richmond, advising him that his son, David W. Powers, was killed in action July 30. Young Mr. Powers was a private in the 28th infantry Company H. He was well known in Richmond as clerk for the United Cigar Stores.
