Mexican Mail to Laredo.
According to information given the United States Government by First Assistant Postmaster General Glover, who made a trip to Mexico City recently, the Mexican Government definitely decided that its airmail would be landed from Mexico City and intermediate points at Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, opposite Laredo, Texas.
This eliminates Brownsville, Texas, as a possible airmail terminus for the time being.
With the Mexican airmail using the Laredo Gateway it is only the result of good judgment with politics playing no part in the selection.
Should the United States had the selection to make the airmails would have their terminus at the Brownsville gateway because politics would have been the deciding factor due to one reason alone—one of the biggest Republican politicians in the United States resides in Brownsville.
It is of little interest to the United States where the most logical point of landing the airmails is located as it does not count when political favors are to be considered and unfortunately politics cause great waste of both money and time in this country.
With Mexico it is different as that Country is ruled practically by one man and he has no favors to confer as it is part of his duty in cases of this nature to select the most direct and most feasible route regardless of the outside influence that may intervene.
If politics ruled in Mexico Brownsville would have gotten the terminus of the Mexican airmails.
The large cities and centers of population in Mexico are along the central part of the country and plain ordinary reason points to this as being the only logical route over which to carry the airmails from Mexico City to the United States where it can be dispatched with greater facilities to the large cities in this country.
The people of vision in Houston, Texas, have been behind the Laredo Gateway for the entry of Mexican airmails since its inception while our natural ally, San Antonio, Texas, has been practically silent.
It is time that this part of Texas leave off the bumb that San Antonio is trying to help South Texas grow and get in with Houston and we will then see the practical side of a working force doing its promises in deeds. Houston has the future of a great Chicago on the Gulf and the biggest town in the South and this vision extends to all of South Texas and the people of Laredo will soon find that millions of Houston dollars are doing duty in Webb County.
At this time the biggest institutions of their kind, the Houston Oil Co. and the Moody-Seagraves combine, head the list of investors here outside of the Magnolia Petroleum Co.
