the assembly of notables was continued much to the satisfaction of his majesty. they are now employed about the fourth division of the plan into which m. de calonne had divided the proposition; after which it is presumed they will be politely thanked.

It is reported that the King of France is not perfectly satisfied with his new Ministers. In a Committee assembled by his Majesty, at which were present only Mons. de Fourqueux, Contrôleur-General; Mons. de Lamoignon, Garde des Sceaux, M. le Baron de Breteuil, Ministre de Paris, and M. de Montmorin des Affaires Etrangères; it was proposed to his Majesty, by the two former to dismiss the Assembly of Notables; the two old Ministers were against the motion; it was debated for some time, when Monsieur le Maréchal de Ségur, Ministre de la Guerre came in to speak to his Majesty, but finding him engaged, he retired, which gave rise to the report of his disgrace; M. le Baron de Breteuil, observing this, proposed to his Majesty to send for him to assist at the Committee; on his arrival, he joined the old Ministers, and the Assembly was continued.
