A PRISONER ESCAPES.

A Handcuffed Prisoner Jumps Off the Cars.

Tom Moore, under arrest for burglary, was being taken by rail from Truckee to Nevada City, in charge of Constable Greely. On the train, after leaving Colfax, the officer and his handcuffed prisoner enjoyed their cigars in the smoking car, and when they had got through that soothing exercise, started to go back into the passenger coach, the officer leading the way. His man did not follow, but jumped off the train, which was going down grade at the time at the rate of 20 miles an hour. The Constable went through to Nevada City and reported the escape, and then went back to hunt up the lost individual. The Constable thinks that he almost has the man tied, on account of the handcuffs, near the place of the escape.
