BALTIMORE. June 8.

FRENCH FLEET.

By the Greenock accounts it seems the opinion is entertained in England that the Scheldt fleet is destined for the United States. More than six months ago we expressed an apprehension that such was the fact. If it be so, let Mr. Madison and our democratick Gods look to it. The white house may afford but a slender protection against an indignant and betrayed people.

We repeat, the people will have no alliance with the perfidious blood thirsty Corsican; nor do they want among them his fleets or armies. The democrats have so far preserved the ascendancy by making the people believe they were perfectly impartial towards the belligerents, and were anxiously desirous of an accommodation with England; but so soon as they discover the deception, find themselves in the arms of France and our ports the points of rendezvous for French privateers and fleets, they will make their betrayers feel the full force of their resentment.
