TO MAKE A ROSE JAR,
Now when the roses are out in their glory of bloom is the right time to make one of these delightful novelties. The rose petals should be dry when gathered. Pack them in layers a couple of inches deep, sprinkling each layer with salt. When jar is full, put in dark, dry cool place and leave for a week. Turn out upon a large plate and toss moss about with fork until loosened. Mix with the mass one-half ounce each of violet, rose and heliotrope powder, one ounce of orris root, half teaspoon mace, quarter teaspoon cloves, four drops oil of roses, 10 drops oil of chiris, 20 drops of oil melisse, 20 drops oil of eucalyptus, 10 drops bergamot and two drams of alcohol. Pack in jar, cover and set in cool place. It will be ready for use in two weeks. Open the jar for a few moments and its exquisite sweetness will permeate every corner of the room.
