Full Text

From Lisbon we hear, that his Portuguese Majesty has resolved to augment his Navy with eight Men of War from 40 to 70 Guns; and that he has demanded of the British Merchants there to produce their Books, in Order, as it is presumed, to make Discoveries of the Exportation of Gold and Silver, which is prohibited in that Kingdom, tho' the People there would starve if they had not Corn from other Countries, for which they have nothing to give in Return but Gold and Silver.

But as this Demand is contrary to Treaty, it is hoped, it will not be insisted on.
