August 8.

That Peace will speedily be established, there is every reason to believe; but that authentic intelligence of its being concluded has yet reached this country, from every inquiry which we have been able to make, we have much reason to doubt.—In fact a peace must speedily be effected, or the Turkish Empire will be completely overthrown. The Turks are not in a condition to stand upon terms, but must agree to whatever conditions other powers may dictate to them; for in every new engagement between them and the Russians, they are losing ground. L.—Our readers will observe, from this day's Star, that they have again experienced a great defeat; and every thing of this nature must tend to hasten their acquiescence in the terms which may have been held out to them for the re-establishment of peace.
