The churches yesterday were well attended, notwithstanding the extremely warm weather.
Rev. W. E. Williams, formerly a member of the West Virginia Conference, now pastor of the Good Shepherd Church of the Reformed Episcopal Church of Chicago, is in the city.
Rev. Dr. George discoursed on the subjects, "The Process of Consecration," and "The Sense and Nonsense of Evolution," at the Fourth St. M. E. Church.
At the First Presbyterian Church, the subjects discussed were "Jesus Crowned with many Crowns," and "Many Sitting Down in the Kingdom of Heaven."
"Doing Good" and "God's Mode of Teaching" were the subjects discussed at the First Baptist Church.
"Jonah" was the illustrated blackboard lesson at the First Baptist Sabbath School.
The Lutheran Mission Sabbath School excursion, on Wednesday, will be one of the finest ever given by the school, and is deserving of success. This will give the young folks a rare opportunity to free themselves of the noisy city, and recreate in the pure country air.
At the English Lutheran Church, yesterday, the church festival of Pentecost was observed. The pastor preached in the morning from Matthew iii, 11, "He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire." In the evening the theme was "Peter's Great Sermon," based on Acts ii, 14.
