Full Text

Hoping to be able next week to announce the final adjournment of the Rhode Island General Assembly, and being short of room in this number of our paper, we have concluded to defer until then any further notice of the proceedings, except to say that the House, after expending a great deal of time upon the railroad bill from the Senate, has referred the whole matter to the railroad commissioners for further examination. While the bill was under consideration on Wednesday last, Mr. Gallup moved the following additional section, which, we regret to say, was rejected:

It shall hereafter be the duty of railroad corporations chartered by this General Assembly, to furnish on their roads, to run with each passenger train, "baby cars." for the convenience of the traveling public. Said cars shall be well supplied with cradles, baby-jumpers, rattles, sugar candy, milk, paregoric, and other sedatives and conveniences. An experienced matron, with wet and dry nurses, shall always be in attendance. Babies shall be checked through, and parents shall have every attention paid to their comfort. In case of loss, the stockholders shall be individually liable to provide another as good in the place of the one lost.
