Powell Lost To Conch Five For An 'Indefinite' Time

Boog Powell, junior center on the Key West High School varsity basketball team, will be sidelined 'indefinitely' according to an announcement today by Head Coach Harold Haskins.

Powell, 16, 6-2 and 210 pounds, the Conchs' leading rebounder and third top scorer, sustained an elbow injury as the locals dropped a close 54 to 50 decision to the South Broward Bulldogs here on Jan. 10. He reinjured the elbow in a later game and the husky youngster has been advised to allow the injured part to completely heal before engaging in athletics of any type.

Haskins' Conchs have been plagued by injuries all season. Neil Jeffcoat and Sergio Puig were sidelined last week. Jeffcoat has completely recovered but Puig, although reporting for practice daily, is hindered by a knee injury.

Sam Holland will probably take over Powell's assignment on the Conch quintet.

Key West plays Miami Tech High School here on Friday night at the Flagler Ave. gym at 8.

Andy Monteagudo, well known here, is the sparkplug of the Tech Blue Devils and the Conchs will have to come up with one of their top efforts to turn back the visitors.

Haskins' charges presently sport a 7-won, 6-lost season's mark.
