Lost--The Schooner Hiram, of Newport, belonging to Noah Dodge, Esq. of Newshoreham. This excellent little vessel was moored on the west side of Black Island, in a place known by the name of Dorry's Cove on the night of the 5th instant, and on the morning of the 6th. Not a vestige of her was to be seen although great pains were used in making her mooring safe with two anchors, and at least a hundred and fifty pounds more iron than had commonly been employed in fastening her. The wind was blowing fresh from the eastward when Capt. Dodge returned from Hartford, and owing to the miserable condition of the harbor wharf at the usual place of landing. he found it impossible to land without exposing his vessel to inevitable destruction by having her dashed to pieces against the shore; he consequently had to put away and make the west side of the Island where he moored her in the manner above mentioned, and since which she has never been heard of. This accident shows in the clearest light the losses and inconveniences to which this hardy and industrious people are subjected on account of their unfortunate location, and appeals in the strongest manner to the justice and liberality of the government for means to improve their harbor in such a way as to enable them to escape from the dangers and losses to which they have already too long been exposed. An appropriation of three or four thousand dollars would defray the expenses of erecting a suitable breakwater in their harbor to do away all these inconveniences. The hardy enterprise and industry of this people well deserve this liberality of the government, and justice demands that it should be bestowed.

The name of the vessel was painted on the kegs, oars, boat hooks, compass and cod-reels, belonging to her. If any person should discover any of them, or the vessel, they will confer a favor by communicating the same to the owner.--[Communicated.

The Schooner Hiram of Newport, belonging to Noah Dodge, Esq. of Newshoreham, was moored on the west side of Black Island in Dorry's Cove on the night of the 5th instant with two anchors and extra iron, but was gone by the morning of the 6th. Capt. Dodge had moored her there due to unsafe conditions at the usual harbor wharf. The loss highlights the dangers from poor harbor conditions, calling for government funding to build a breakwater.
