Paris, July 26. The Province of Languedoc having been alarmed at Reports industriously spread, of a Kind of conniving Toleration of the Huguenots; as a sensible Proof of his Catholick Dispositions, his Majesty has ordered the Edicts of the 17th of January and the 6th of November, 1717; to be again proclaimed there, by which all Magistrates and Judges are to attend to the strict Execution of the Edicts against the pretended reformed Religion; and for the more effectual and speedy Accomplishment of such a desirable End, the King empowers the Commander in Chief, and in his Absence the Intendant of the Province, to take Cognizance of any Disobedience to the said Edicts, and condemn the Delinquents without any Process. Orders of the like wholesome Import have been sent to the other Provinces, that all Exercise of Protestantism, private as well as publick, may be severely punished, or totally suppressed.
