SOMETHING MARVELLOUS.

On Sunday last, between the hours of 5 and 7 A. M. was experienced the most extraordinary fall of rain, perhaps ever known in this country, in the like time. The centre of the shower appeared to be near the N. W. part of the town--The water descended in such torrents from the cloud, that in the space of a few minutes, the earth appeared to be under a general deluge:--The vallies were soon filled, and the streams, formed a flood which rose in the space of 30 minutes, perhaps ten times greater than ever was known before in the same streams. Nothing appeared to be able to resist its fury; large trees standing at a considerable distance from the usual course of the water, were almost instantaneously torn up by the roots, and swept away by the torrent, and out of six bridges and five mills that stood upon Fall River, one mill and one bridge only were left standing; and what evinced the amazing force of the torrent is, that even in the lesser streams, hundreds of rocks, some it is presumed of several hundred weight, were forced down the current, and are now to be seen at some distance from the water on dry land; and what is more extraordinary, the water in places burst out from the sides of hills, at places where water was never known to proceed from before, and formed streams of considerable magnitude; carrying earth, stones, and timber before them. The meadows and low lands were prodigiously torn in pieces, and covered with gravel and timber; the corn in many places was swept away, and the roads rendered almost impassable.
