The Rev. Dr. C. W. Appleton.

We made some remarks respecting this gentleman in our last week's paper, since which time we have been shown a letter to a gentleman in this place from the Doctor's Father-in-law, that discloses a still deeper villany of this scoundrel, Appleton. The letter states, that Appleton informed the writer that he had once been a married man, but his wife, regardless of her marriage vow, had proved inconstant and unfaithful to him-had left him and lived in adultery with another man, until her decease. With this false tale of his misfortune he imposed on the victim he has made his wife, and her unsuspecting father. It is needless for us to say that the story of his wife's inconstancy is utterly false. A more virtuous and amiable woman never lived. So far from being dead, she was a short time ago married, to a gentleman of this county, in which she now resides, having previously, as we stated in our last paper, obtained a divorce from her unworthy and fugitive husband.

Not satisfied with twice deserting his wife here, and leaving her to be supported by the charity of her friends, this Reverend Gentleman, to carry out his wicked purposes, adds insult to accumulated injury, by attempting to cover the character of his former companion with infamy. Such base conduct shows that this villain has lost every sense of honorable feeling, and that he is prepared to indulge in every species of crime that will further his diabolical purposes. He is now, we understand, in the South, to which place he went shortly after his marriage, and has written to his wife to come to him. This request she was about to comply with, when news from this place respecting the previous bad conduct and character of her husband, reached her.

Knowing the man as we do, we would advise her not to go. If she does, she too, will soon be deserted, and left among strangers in want and destitution.

In order to present himself in as eligible a point of view as possible, he represented, we understand, to the father of his intended bride, that he had been a member of the Legislature of one of the Western States. This too, like the representation respecting the unfaithfulness of his wife, is false, but, had he his just deserts, he would have been, long since, an inmate of a Western Penitentiary.

We copy the above from the Wayne County Record; and take the liberty of asking our brethren of the press throughout the States to publish the conduct of this scoundrel to the world. Hold him up before the world as a villain deserving the deepest vengeance of that Being whom he has blasphemed in presuming to serve. He has twice violated the law of the land-outraged the happiness of those who have placed confidence in him, and is still at large to perpetrate similar offenses. He should be arrested, and the vigor of the law put upon him. We ask the press to assist in bringing him to justice, so far as human laws can administer it. His final retribution will be in the hands of Him whose power extends throughout eternity.
