JAMAICA - Sir Hugh Foot, Governor of Jamaica, opened a new airport in Grand Cayman, one of the dependencies of Jamaica, towards the end of March. The airport was named the Owen Roberts Field in memory of Wing Commander Roberts, head of the Caribbean International Airways and pioneer of Cayman air travel. The airfield was built by the Jamaica Public Works Department at a cost of £10,000, a grant from the British Government. Hon. William Bustamante, Chief Minister of Jamaica was also present at the opening ceremony.
