AGAIN SUNDAY
Band Leads Pony Parade Down Fremont to Union Pacific Grounds; Plans For Tomorrow Completed
I'll be riding broncs again tomorrow," said Smokey Roberts when he recovered consciousness at the Las Vegas hospital this afternoon.
His horse became unruly and carried him through the fence. He was rushed to the hospital and was unconscious for some twenty minutes.
"Ride 'em cowboy! Let buck!"
Las Vegas turned out to see the Boulder Dam rodeo today at the Union Pacific grounds in spite of the cold wind. The parade started at Fourth and Fremont at a little before two o'clock, and, headed by the band, moved down Fremont street and to the grounds ponies impatient for action and cowboys' wide hat brims quivering in the wind.
The performance, which will be repeated with additions and variations tomorrow, started as scheduled in spite of the weather. One tenth of the proceeds from the two performances will go to the local fire department, which has sponsored the show, and a far bigger crowd is anticipated for tomorrow's rodeo, granted more tolerable weather, according to Chub Morgan, manager.
Included in the all-star cast who performed at Union Pacific field this afternoon are numbered foremost rodeo riders of the West. Grady Wilson, world's champion bulldogger, of Texas, came north from the Lone Star state especially to attend the Las Vegas meet. He won his title at Cheyenne, Wyoming in '28. He was born in Munday Texas, put in his riding apprenticeship in Miles City, Montana, and won numerous prizes in the stock show at Ft. Worth, Texas, March 1st to 7th.
Then, aside from Paris Williams Skeeter Bill Robbins, Overland Red and other stars of the rodeo firmament, there are supporting listed in the program below
