Short Reasons for a Spanish War.
BECAUSE, the Insults already offered by Great-Britain from Spain, are by no Means consistent either with our national Honour or Security.
Because what Spain has already done, is a plain Indication of what she would do, were she become more formidable and we more in her Power.
Because we were never less in her Power than at present, and probably never shall be again.
Because vigorous Measures with Spain have always succeeded best.
Because such Measures only are likely to procure the Terms on which a lasting and honourable Peace, both with France and Spain, can have a good Foundation.
Because the French will probably be the immediate Sufferers by a War between Great Britain and Spain, an open Enemy being less detrimental than one concealed.
Because a War with Spain is likely to bring in more than it carries out.
Because a War with Spain, for other Reasons, is likely to be attended with little extraordinary Expence, many of our Ships wanting present Employment, and no additional Land Forces being required.
Because, lastly, a War with Spain may not improbably draw us out of a most indubitably destructive War in Germany.
