THE OLD COURTHOUSE

The old courthouse begins to look like a wreck. The roof is nearly off and part of the rear walls is torn down. If those old walls could speak, what a tale of happiness and sorrow they could tell.
Within the old walls criminals have received sentences that confined them to the penitentiary or the hangman's noose, while others have heard the words that meant life and liberty to them.
The voices of the pleader and the orator have been heard within those walls. There Kinney, Flack, Bigelow, Talbot, and Brown, a bright galaxy of legal minds, have evenly held the scales of justice.
Kinney, Flack and Bigelow have gone to their reward. All of them have written their names securely on the pages of Elko county's history.
The old court house will be torn down and in its place will arise a more costly and stately edifice.
Other judges will hold the scales of justice, but we doubt if in the years to come, any will hold them more evenly and more impartially than those whose names are so indelibly associated with the old building.
