Cooking Art Demonstrated By 4-H Girls

Montgomery County 4-H Club girls took full advantage of the opportunity on Wednesday, June 27, to exhibit their skill in the art of cake baking at the Cooking School put on by the Potomac Electric Power Company, the Montgomery County Sentinel and merchants of Gaithersburg.

Not only were cakes on exhibit but a great many 4-H girls were present. Three clubs had one hundred percent attendance of their members, namely Cedar Grove, Woodfield and Lewisdale. Mrs. Roy Arnold, of the Lewisdale Club, Mrs. Charles Watkins and Mrs. Milton Tabler, of the Cedar Grove Club and Mrs. Harrison King and Mrs. Jerry King, of the Woodfield Club, had worked hard to organize their 4-H mothers so that every girl was present. The Germantown Club, with its large membership had every member present but one. These girls came in a truck and rather enjoyed the rainy trip home as one of their members, Mary Virginia Dorsey, won first place with her cake. Mrs. Mumford had her girls there from Colesville. Mrs. George Nicholson's girls filled her car to overflowing and the agents do not know how her daughter, Mary, could manage to get the electric oven in with the delicious dinner that came with the oven. Mrs. William Robey and Mrs. John Gandy of the Potomac Glen Club had their girls there. Mrs. Horace Wear and Mrs. Allie Messer and the Junior 4-H Club of Gaithersburg was there.

It was a happy group that gathered before 11 a.m. Games and songs were enjoyed until time for each club to take their picnic lunch to one of the tables. Then came the Cooking School.

As most of the girls have taken part in Demonstration Day this May, they were eager to see if a professional demonstrator carried out all the rules Miss Blake had stressed in how to give a good demonstration.

Mrs. Mary Wells had no idea of the close observation and very favorable comments they have made.
