Full Text
One encouraging evidence of the growth of political independence among the people of this country is furnished by their refusal to respond to the frantic appeals of the old line politicians to get excited over the lowering of the tariff. Not many years ago every republican would have been predicting that business was going to the everlasting bow-wows, because the high protective tariff wall was being demolished. But now they accept the situation cheerfully and are perfectly willing to give the low tariff policy a fair trial.
