Full Text

One Drawback to Deportation.

Minister Wu Ting Fang was recently told a story in regard to the Chinese exclusion act that pleased him noticeably. Soon after the act was passed the secretary of state received a letter from Pennsylvania, signed by a Chinaman.
The writer said that he had come to this country under false pretense, and hence he should be deported to China immediately. The request was so strange that the secretary of state ordered an investigation. The agent reported a few days later that the Chinaman's statement about the way in which he entered this country was correct and that he should be deported. There was one drawback, however. The Chinaman had been convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.
