Full Text

A Modern Daniel Lambert.—Memphis is boasting of a prodigy, a negro boy nine years of age, born at Hickman, Ky., and now the slave of R. B. Bone, of Fayette county, Tenn. At his birth he weighed sixteen pounds, and now his weight is three hundred and ten pounds, and his height five feet six inches. He measures ten inches around the smallest part of the wrist, twenty-four inches around the arm above the elbow, and sixty-four inches around the shoulders. He is sprightly and intelligent in conversation, and, considering his extraordinary size, is remarkably active. The most wonderful attribute of this wonderful being is the great strength he possesses, being able to carry on his shoulders, with apparent ease, three hundred pounds dead weight, and raising from the earth, with scarce an effort, four hundred pounds.—Estimated as the "boys" of his type are down that way, Charley is worth fully $3 for every pound he can lift.
