Observance Had Of Fire Prevention

Fire Prevention Week, a national event, was observed in Henderson this week under leadership of the fire department, and with particular emphasis in the schools.

Firemen have inspected many residences in the colored sections and found many dangerous conditions and hazards in electrical connections. They gave instructions that these be remedied.

Fire drills were held at Henderson high school, and other schools were visited by way of emphasizing the importance and necessity of precautions against fires.

Henderson's fire loss this year has been exceptionally low. Up to October 1 the reported damage was only $1,506, compared with an item several times that large in the first nine months of 1939.

Regular fire drills are required in all of the schools, but are not observed as faithfully as they should be, it is understood.

During the week, one of the fire trucks was paraded through the streets at intervals, bearing inscriptions and banners calling attention to Fire Prevention Week.
