WINDHAM, March 20.

Extract of a letter from an eminent Clergyman, in the South, to his friend in this State

"We have had a most agreeable visit to the West, and I have been an eye, an ear and heart-felt witness to the work of God in Cumberland, at the West end of Tennessee, among the Presbyterians and Methodists (called by the people of the world the union Presbyterians and Methodists) perhaps four hundred souls have been brought home to God, the summer past, and the work goeth on still. It is chiefly at Sacramental seasons, they pray, preach and commune together, Methodists and Presbyterians. Their meetings commonly hold four days and nights--days, in the open woods; they have waggons, and provisions, and fires in the night--people come from various parts, 30, 40 and 50 miles. This Presbytery, synodical and general assembly Presbyterians, are very different from those in the East."
