It's nearing the witching hour and just what are your plans for a colorful Hallowe'en?

Washable, finger painted scenes on store fronts are now a popular Hallowe'en diversion for boys and girls in many communities. The first step is to ask permission of your friendly grocer or merchant. In some cities, merchants offer prizes. Sometimes it becomes a contest among schools or grades. At any rate, every one in town can enjoy the results: An art gallery along Main St.

The easiest and least expensive way to decorate Hallowe'en windows is to use liquid laundry starch and powdered color (dry tempera), both of which are washable.

For each different color, take an empty frozen juice can (6 ounce) and fill it half-full of powdered color. Pour in just enough Sta-Flo liquid starch to make a heavy paste. Stir in a dash of water. This permits an easy working consistency that glides over the glass. You also can substitute cleansing powder for the dry color when making white spooks or ghosts.

The window shown above is approximately 6 ft. x 6 1/2 ft., and requires one-third of a bottle of Sta-Flo.

The 'tricks or treats' bag our young lady is toting is easily made from a brown shopping bag—and what loot it can hold!

The colorful design is finger painted on ordinary shelf paper. Use orange and black powdered color. Wet paper on both sides, turn shiny side up, and make witch, pumpkin or skeleton. Use one teaspoon of liquid starch and 1/2 teaspoon of powdered color for each design. When paper is dry, cut out design and paste on bag.
