MR. POLK AND THE TARIFF.

The Carlisle (Pa.) Statesman says that at a public meeting recently held in that county, a letter was written "to Governor Polk, by the committee appointed for that purpose, propounding the following interrogatories: 1st. 'Are you in favor of the tariff act of 1842? 2d. Would you, if elected, support that act as it is, without modification; or would you be in favor of modifying it?' Gov. Polk has treated this letter with silent contempt. The committee appointed to write to Gov. Polk made report at a meeting held in Dickinson township on Saturday last.
