On the 14th inst. the king of the French went in form, accompanied by his ministers, and took the necessary oath, to maintain the new constitution, before the national assembly. This was done in the presence of an immense multitude of spectators, and the ceremony was accompanied by a general discharge of the artillery belonging to the national guards. The king did not appear with his blue ribbon; giving as a reason, that "he did not wish to be distinguished by any external mark of dignity from the rest of the citizens."
