POETIC ESSAY TO KATIE
X
VALENTINE
And so now I mean to write
to you sweet Katie J.
The girl without equal,
The belle of the week.
I wonder if you got the letter
I wrote to you before.
I sailed in the R. K. D. A.
And sent by J. N. Moore.
My head will scarce contain
I am so elated bright,
But as miles from you I must
this chance to write.
And first should I never see you.
Be of mind it not;
Should no friendship show, be true.
They should not be forgot.
But friends and foes alike do know,
As you may plainly see,
In every funeral rite
Or uncle's leg.
From virtue never deviate,
Her influence be
Alike induces tenderness
Or fortitude divine.
And if you cannot cut a dash
Or cause an eye
I hope you'll put a
?!
Are you for annexation to
My cousin? Heart and
He offers in a puff,
A E 2 of land.
:1:
c He says he loves you too much,
You're virtuous and wise,
In excellence you excel.
: : All others in his eyes.
This so until you I see
I pray you to excuse.
And do not burn in rage
, My young and wayward muse,
Now fare you well dear K. T. J.
o... I trust you are true--
'. When this you see then you can say
An so I O U.
