Mr. Editor:--I noticed in the last issue of your paper that some friend has placed my name before the people as a candidate for Prosecuting Attorney for this county. I have been requested to run for that office by a number of voters, and I have invariably told them I would not be a candidate. I still say to my friends that I have not altered my notion. I cannot, with my consent, be a candidate this fall.
I have not been requested to run on account of any dissatisfaction with regard to either of the candidates before the people, but only through personal friendship. Both parties have good men before them for that office. There can be no objection to either, except alternate political objections.
Mr. Editor, from the manner in which you asked me, if you should publish my announcement, it becomes necessary for me to say I had no knowledge of the matter. It was mentioned to me that my name had been sent in; I thought it was a joke. I now state, on the honor of a man, that I know nothing about it as to who sent my name in, only as I have heard since. I have heard several spoken of, each as the person who sent my announcement in; but up to this moment I do not know who it was.
I tender my sincere thanks for the partiality of my friend, whoever he may be, or to them, as the case may be.
I repeat, I cannot consent to be a candidate this fall.
Yours, truly,
D. H. WIRE
