CLARKSBURG
Woman to Raise Volunteer
Corps of Nurses and Surgeons
for War.

NEW YORK, Aug. 1.--Cable dispatches
state that Mrs. Slavko Grouitch,
formerly Miss Mabel Gordon
Dunlap, of Clarksburg, W. Va., wife
of the Servian assistant secretary of
foreign affairs, will raise a corps of
volunteer surgeons and nurses in
London to attend the Servian wounded
on the battle fields.
Mme. Grouitch has notified a London
friend that the Austrians had
prevented her from crossing the border
to join her husband in Belgrade.
She wrote from Sils-Maria, Engadine,
Switzerland, as follows:
"Slavko telegraphs me not to try
to cross Austria, because every one
holding a Servian passport is subject
to detention or annoyance. I am
wild with anxiety for him, but feel
that I can be of really more use outside
the lines than inside at present.
I shall return to London at once and
raise a corps of volunteer surgeons
and nurses."
It was while a student of art in
Greece in 1901, that Miss Dunlap met
Slavko Grouitch, then Servian charge
d'affaires in Athens. They were
married the following year.
