Full Text
A servant girl in this city, who has remained four years in one family has given an example of self-denial and economy worth following. She has been paid fourteen shillings per week, or $364 for the whole time. Of this money she has sent $225, to enable her mother, two brothers and three sisters to come to America, and only expended $139, or $34 75 cents per annum, for her own comforts. She is a brave woman, and the man who now has her for a wife, must prosper and be happy. The aristocracy may sneer at her lowly occupation and humble attire, but there are few who ever do deeds from which they obtain such lasting satisfaction as that poor servant girl has experienced, when by her own labor and frugality she has relieved the distress and poverty of her mother, brothers and sisters.-Detroit Advertiser.
